The Story

The Story BehindThis Book

This book is the culmination of decades of hands-on experience in the design, construction, and operation of hydraulic power plants across Turkey. Written by Hidayet Basesme, a veteran mechanical engineer who dedicated his career to harnessing the power of water for clean energy generation.

From the initial site surveys in remote valleys to the final commissioning of turbines, every chapter reflects real-world knowledge gained through countless projects. The goal was simple: to create a comprehensive, practical reference that bridges the gap between academic theory and the engineering realities of hydroelectric power.

What began as personal notes and project documentation gradually evolved into a full manuscript — one that could serve both young engineers entering the field and experienced professionals seeking a reliable reference for complex hydraulic calculations and system design.

The spiral case under assembly in the workshop
Workers at a runner blade in the workshop
Runner blade sections, with a worker alongside for scale
The distributor ring carrying the wicket gates

I present this unassuming book once more to those who have given their hearts to hydroelectric power, and to those who yet will — with the hope that it serves them well.
