CFD and Thermal Analysis for Industrial Plants

Industrial plants hold thousands of potential applications for CFD analysis. Refineries, factories and facilities that consume less energy, recover waste heat and minimise harmful emissions are designed with CFD analysis.

What Does CFD Analysis Deliver in an Industrial Plant?

In an industrial plant, energy efficiency, production quality and emission figures depend largely on how fluids and heat move through the facility. CFD analysis (computational fluid dynamics) solves that movement numerically before the plant is ever built.

This lets you calculate critical quantities at the design stage — from fan head to stack draught, from heat exchanger efficiency to cyclone capture rate — and avoid expensive revisions after commissioning.

Project Examples

01

Refinery — Furnace Air Supply Ducts

Air flow inside the ducts feeding a furnace at a refinery was examined with CFD analysis. Pressure losses along the ducts were calculated, it was determined whether air leaving the fan was distributed evenly across the ducts, and the fan head required for the target flow rate was computed.

02

Cyclone — Solid Particle Capture Efficiency

Air flow and solid particle motion inside two different cyclone designs were examined with CFD analysis. Pressure losses were calculated, and the particle sizes each design could and could not capture were compared.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is CFD analysis used for in an industrial plant?

It is used to calculate flow and heat transfer in systems such as furnaces, boilers, heat exchangers, fans, pumps, air ducts, cyclones and stacks before production. It lets you optimise the design to cut energy consumption, recover waste heat and reduce emissions.

Can analysis be done on an existing plant?

Yes. For commissioned plants we diagnose the root cause of problems such as pressure loss, uneven flow distribution, overheating or poor capture efficiency, and report back with concrete geometric change recommendations.

What data do you need for the analysis?

The geometry of the system (technical drawing or 3D model), operating conditions (flow rate, temperature, pressure) and fluid properties are sufficient. Where data is missing we proceed with engineering assumptions and state them explicitly in the report.

What do you deliver at the end?

Not just colourful images — an engineering report containing calculated quantities, design comparisons and specific geometric recommendations for how to solve the problem.

Do you have a flow or heat problem in your plant?

Share your problem; we'll clarify the scope together and propose an analysis plan tailored to you.
